Axis Deer Picture

To find an Axis Deer picture on the Internet, you can try searching by the other name of the species – chital (or cheetal.) Since this species originate from India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bangladesh, it’s often referred to by its original name. In America, these animals are often named Spotted deer because of their striking appearance. The refined beauty and tasty meat of these animals made them the most popular introduced game species. Since the early 20th century, Axis Deer were introduced to Australia, Point Reyes National Seashore, California, Texas, Florida and Hawaii in the United States. They soon became plentiful because of their high reproductive rate and non-specialized diet.

In the Axis Deer picture, you’ll see a graceful and refined deer with a reddish-fawn coat marked with round white spots. The underparts of these deer are white. A common body length of the Axis Deer is 1.7 m; they stand up to 90 cm at the shoulders and weigh up to 85 kg. The antlers of the Axis Deer are shed annually, so they are not very large and complicated compared to other species. The maximum antlers’ length is 75 cm. The antlers consist of three prongs and are curved in a lyre shape.

Most Axis Deer picture galleries feature these animals in herds. A typical herd of Axis Deer consists of 10 to 50 individuals, but sometimes up to 100 animals congregate in a herd. Unlike other species, males live together with the herd. Excellent sense of smell and hearing protects the herd of the Axis Deer from predators and hunters. In South Asia, Axis Deer form a symbiosis with the Northern Plains Grey Langur, a monkey living in the trees. Monkeys spot the predators from the tree top and raise the alarm allowing the deer to escape. Deer’s sense of smell detects predators when monkey cannot see it. Also, monkeys drop fruits for Axis Deer.

In the wild, these deer are very alert. Their hearing and sense of smell are very effective in avoiding encounters with both predators and humans. In parks and other places where these creatures are accustomed to human disturbance, taking an Axis Deer picture is not difficult.
